SAP S/4HANA Phase 0 Readiness Assessment

Find out what your S/4HANA migration will really involve before you commit budget to it. We read your ECC system, test your assumptions, and give you a plan your steering committee can fund.

A Phase 0 readiness assessment answers the big S/4HANA questions with evidence from your own ECC system: which migration path fits, which custom code and data problems you’ll carry across, and what a realistic timeline looks like. The Silicon Partners (TSP) runs it in two to four weeks at a fixed fee, starting with a free 30-minute call.

Ways to start

Three ways to start your Phase 0

Most companies begin with the free call. It tells you whether a full assessment makes sense now, later or not yet.

  • Usual first step

    Phase 0 readiness call

    Duration
    30 minutes
    Cost
    Free

    What you get

A senior SAP architect reviews your landscape and plans with you. An honest read on your migration path and timing. A clear next step, even if it’s “not yet.”

  • Phase 0 assessment

    Duration
    2 to 4 weeks
    Cost
Fixed fee, scoped to your system

    What you get

Read-only analysis of your live ECC system with TSP ATLAS, TSP Kelvin and SAP Readiness Check. Findings on processes, custom code, data, integrations and clean core. A roadmap your steering committee can fund.

  • S/4HANA Sandbox

    Duration
    4 to 6 weeks
    Cost
    Low cost

    What you get

One ECC system converted to S/4HANA as a sandbox, on the platform you choose. Your own data and processes, ready for your teams to try.

When should you run a Phase 0?

Run a Phase 0 when your question changes from “should we move to S/4HANA?” to “how do we scope and fund it?” It works best before you accept any implementation estimate, while every major decision is still open and inexpensive to change. For most companies, that moment is now.

  • You’re building the business case

Facts from your own system for leadership and the board.

  • You haven’t settled on a migration path

Deliverables

What should a Phase 0 assessment produce?

At the end of a TSP Phase 0 assessment, you have evidence for every major migration decision and a plan built on that evidence. Each deliverable below is specific to your system and drawn from your live ECC data, so your steering committee can see exactly why each recommendation was made.

  • Validated migration path

Brownfield, greenfield or selective, tested against your system.

  • Process inventory and heatmap

Every active process, weighted by volume and users.

  • Custom code and clean core

Every custom object scored: retire, rebuild or keep.

  • ECC to S/4HANA mapping

Deprecated and replaced items flagged before you start.

  • Data readiness

Master data gaps found and fixed before testing.

  • Integration review

Every interface, including EDI, checked for rework.

  • Change and user impact

Which teams S/4HANA affects most, by line of business.

  • Prioritized migration roadmap

A phased plan with downtime estimates, ready to fund.

How it works

How a Phase 0 assessment runs

  1. Readiness call

Thirty minutes with a senior SAP architect. You describe your landscape and plans; we share what we typically see in systems like yours, and together we decide whether a full assessment makes sense.

  2. Connect (week 1)

We deploy our tools inside your SAP landscape with read-only access, and run TSP ATLAS, TSP Kelvin and SAP Readiness Check. Your teams keep working as normal.

  3. Analyze (weeks 1 to 2)

First findings arrive within two weeks. Our architects work through processes, custom code, data, integrations and clean core options.

  4. Validate (weeks 2 to 3)

Short working sessions with your process owners and IT leads test the findings against how your business really runs.

  5. Roadmap and readout (weeks 3 to 4)

We walk your steering committee through the roadmap and the evidence behind every recommendation.

How is Phase 0 different from SAP Readiness Check?

SAP Readiness Check is SAP’s technical analysis of your ECC system. It lists what needs attention: simplification items, custom code findings, add-ons and business functions. A TSP Phase 0 assessment uses those results as one input, then adds the process analysis, business context and decisions you need to plan and fund the migration.

TSP ATLAS and TSP Kelvin: SAP process intelligence for Phase 0

TSP ATLAS and TSP Kelvin both read your ECC system, and each answers a different question. ATLAS maps everything in your system and what changes in S/4HANA. Kelvin shows which business processes matter most, what S/4HANA changes for them, and which users they affect.

TSP ATLAS

TSP ATLAS is an SAP process intelligence tool that connects read-only to your live ECC system and maps every active process, custom object and S/4HANA change across all major modules.

  • A process inventory and volumetric heatmap across FI, CO, SD, MM, PP, WM, QM, PM and HR
  • RICEFW and clean core findings, each module scored for criticality and complexity
  • Best for scoping the migration, choosing the path and planning release upgrades

TSP Kelvin

TSP Kelvin is TSP’s pre-migration insights tool, listed on sap.com, that ranks your business processes and shows how S/4HANA changes the ones that matter most.

  • A business process scorecard, with S/4HANA’s impact on your critical processes
  • The relevant SAP Fiori apps and a change readiness view by line of business
  • Best for deciding what moves first, planning cutover and preparing your people

S/4HANA Sandbox

See S/4HANA working with your own data

Sometimes the fastest way to settle a debate is to see it. For a low, fixed cost, we convert one of your ECC systems to S/4HANA as a sandbox, on the platform you choose, so your teams can try their own processes with their own data. It typically takes four to six weeks.

What’s included

  • One ECC system converted to S/4HANA
  • Your choice of platform: on premises, AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
  • Your own data and configuration
  • What the conversion teaches us, fed into your roadmap

When it helps

  • Leadership wants proof before approving the program
  • You’re deciding between a conversion and a selective data transition
  • Your teams need hands-on time to plan process changes

What happens after Phase 0?

  • ARIA Project

When you move into delivery, TSP ARIA Project carries your Phase 0 findings forward, keeping requirements, decisions and scope connected from planning to go-live.

FAQ

Questions about Phase 0 readiness assessment

Straight answers to what SAP leaders ask us most.

Talk to an SAP expert

Is a Phase 0 assessment the same as a pre-migration assessment or “Phase zero”?

Yes. The names are used interchangeably for the assessment you run before an S/4HANA program starts. TSP’s Phase 0 combines SAP Readiness Check with TSP ATLAS and TSP Kelvin, and ends with a roadmap.

How much does a Phase 0 assessment cost?

The readiness call is free. The assessment is a fixed fee, scoped to the size of your system and the modules in scope, so you know the cost before work starts. There is no software license to buy.

How long does a Phase 0 assessment take?

Two to four weeks for most ECC systems. First findings arrive within two weeks, depending on how quickly system access is set up.

Is it safe to connect your tools to our production system?

Yes. TSP ATLAS runs in read-only mode and reads system metadata only. It doesn’t access transactional data, financial records or sensitive business information. It’s installed through a standard SAP transport inside your own landscape, and your system data isn’t stored in any third-party cloud.

Do we need to choose brownfield or greenfield before we start?

No. Choosing the path is one of the main outcomes. Most teams arrive with a working assumption, and Phase 0 tests it against what’s in your system.

Does Phase 0 help if we’re planning RISE with SAP or GROW with SAP?

Yes. It assesses your current system against your target, and it often helps decide which route fits. See RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP.

What if we’re not ready to migrate yet?

Then we’ll say so, and tell you what needs to happen first. With SAP ECC mainstream maintenance ending in 2027, knowing where you stand is useful even if you act later.

Do we have to use TSP for the migration afterward?

No. The findings and the roadmap are yours, and you can take them to any partner.

How should we read our SAP Readiness Check results?

Treat the report as a starting list of questions. A high count of simplification items or custom code findings shows where to look, and says little about effort: many items won't touch the processes you actually use, and much custom code is rarely used. Watch for add-ons without an S/4HANA version, since they can block a conversion, and start data cleanup early.

What does TSP need from us?

A read-only system user, set up through a standard SAP transport; a named contact on your side; and a few hours from your key process owners for short validation sessions. If you've already run SAP Readiness Check, share the results. If not, we run it for you.
