SAP S/4HANA

SAP S/4HANA version upgrades

Already on S/4HANA? TSP moves your system to a newer release, with the impact mapped, your custom code ready and every process retested before cutover.

The Silicon Partners (TSP) upgrades existing SAP S/4HANA systems to newer releases, for example from S/4HANA 2020 or 2021 to 2023 or later. TSP maps what the new release changes for your processes and custom code, fixes what needs fixing, automates regression testing, and plans a cutover around your business calendar.

Why upgrade S/4HANA to a newer release?

Each S/4HANA release is supported for a limited time, and newer releases carry SAP’s latest capabilities, including much of its AI. Staying on an older release eventually means losing mainstream maintenance, and the gap to the current release grows every year, which makes the eventual upgrade bigger and riskier.

How it works

How a TSP upgrade runs

  1. Assess the impact

TSP ATLAS and SAP’s own tools map what the new release changes for your processes, custom code and integrations.

    Phase 0 covers upgrades too

  2. Plan

Scope, timeline and test strategy, timed around your business calendar and SAP’s maintenance dates.

  3. Fix custom code

Custom code and modifications adapted for the new release, with unused code retired while you’re at it.

  4. Test

Automated regression testing across your core processes, with TSP ARIA Test generating test cases from your configuration. You reuse the suite for every future release.

    SAP test automation

  5. Cut over

A rehearsed cutover in the planned window, then hypercare while your teams settle in.

FAQ

Questions about Version upgrades

Straight answers to what SAP leaders ask us most.

Talk to an SAP expert

How long does an S/4HANA upgrade take?

It depends on how many releases you’re moving across, how much custom code you have, and how much of your testing is already automated. The impact assessment gives you a realistic plan before you commit.

Can we skip releases when we upgrade?

Usually, yes. You can often move straight to a newer supported release without installing every release in between. The impact assessment confirms the right target for your system.

Is an upgrade the same as moving from SAP ECC?

No. An upgrade moves an existing S/4HANA system to a newer release. Moving from SAP ECC to S/4HANA is a migration, covered on its own page: ECC to S/4HANA migration.

Can you support our system after the upgrade?

Yes. SAP AMS covers support after go-live, including regression testing for SAP’s support packages and planning your next upgrade.
